HOME RESTAURANT HOTEL BAR FIND US ABOUT US CONTACT Some of the HISTORY surrounding the Muckley Corner Hotel (known, for an interval as the Olde Corner House Hotel).
We have added a recently found photograph o Parts of the building date back to 1683 - it was indeed the original Old Coaching Inn. Trading well and expanding under private ownership until 1891, when the whole premises were sold together with 8 acres of ground to a small brewery who built a new Inn (which explains the superb cellars) on part of the grounds and selling off the buildings which were converted to small cottages. These cottages have since been re-acquired and now form part of the hotel.
You might wonder where the name
Muckley Corner comes from - well, an article on the internet tells us that
it means the great leah (a wood or clearing in woodland) If you would like to see the full article, please click HERE
Ever noticed the pink marble Pergola in the front of the hotel? Well, it may not be there much longer - apparently it contravenes section 87/c/4098253 of the ministry of obfuscation and confusion's rule concerning the erection and upkeep of pink pergolas in public places by Italians nationals trying to blend into the surrounding countryside by masquerading as restaurateurs. Maybe if you wind Nat up enough he may become a restauranteur (emphasis on the rant) instead of a restaurateur. All of which has little to do with an hotel in Lichfield but, let's be honest (as we always are) there are no other hotels or restaurants in the Lichfield area with pink pergolas actual or erstwhile.
